Christina Applegate’s Boyfriend Found Dead
This time, it’s a real Hollywood headline. Let me ask you, how would you like your life defined by being someone else’s boyfriend? That no one would recognize your name in a headline except you are tied to celebrity? In Hollywood, who you are is often defined by who you know.
Fan Mail Monday Returns!
Well, it never went anywhere, but I did last week. The problem got so bad with my hands that I could not type for a few days. But now I’m back and I got a fan mail from another country!
Hey Steve,
My question has to do with headology and publicity: How much of yourself are you willing to change (appearance-wise, personality-wise, etc.) to make it in the industry, how far are you willing to go and are there any movie parts that you would refuse to play (and if so, why?).
Best of wishes
-velko, Cyprus
I got an email from Cyprus! This is a cute little island southeast of Greece. I happen to know that if you are from there, you are a Cypriot. Anyway, Velko, this is a great question. Well, actually it’s a lot of great questions. First, changing my appearance: as an actor, I have no problem changing my hair and body or doing anything else I have to to portray a character. I want to present to the audience the best telling of my character’s story as possible. Now, this is more something I would do after getting a part, but something a casting director may ask. Right now I’m working very hard to be in leading man shape, as I’ve mentioned.
Personality-wise? Well, there is one higher calling I have; I am a Christian. This may seem to make it harder for me out here, but actually I believe it is the reason I am here. It is hard to decide how far I can go for a part, but some things are no brainers: no nudity or sex for example. I have no problems playing a bad guy, a murderer, even a devil worshipper — because those people exist and those stories need to be told. I am trying to avoid saying the “f-word” if I can, but I don’t have anything against swearing because, well, people swear and it would make some characters unrealistic or not believable if they did not. I think one thing is important to keep in mind: you are playing a role not becoming someone else. So I may play lots of roles, but inside I will try to remain true to my faith.
Picture of the Day
Well, they may say Hollywood is for the birds.

I was in Highland Park and walked by this store with, well, livestock in it. I tried to take a picture of the baby chicks but they moved too fast. So I got these… erm… doves? I think? I left the store when a flea jumped on my arm.
