The day I met Jay Leno

Published by steveracer at 2:52 pm under Hollywood Edit This

Ah, Bob’s Big Boy. One of the last few places on earth you can go have a double decker hamburger and not feel guilty because no matter how much you eat, chances are you will not exit the establishment looking as large as the gigantic ceramic young man outside holding a plate.

At this particular Bob’s in Toluca Lake , Friday night is the informal “classic/hot rod drive in” night. The parking lot is PACKED with unique and unusual cars that people bring in. Everything from souped up Mustangs to motorcycles with flames, Deloreans and Ferraris, Classic Chevys and the occasional unique and rare car I haven’t even seen before.

Jay Leno drove up in one of these. It was some type of 40’s car, light yellow, that I had never heard of or seen before. I did know that Jay was a big car collector, and he even has a rocket motorcycle. Several people were talking to Jay, and I figured I could just walk up and do the same. The Speed Racer movie had just been announced last year, and I thought I’d ask him about that. This is how it went.

“Hey Jay, are you going to buy the new Mach 5?”

“What is that?”

“The car from the Speed Racer movie.”

“Ha ha! Very Funny.”

Jay drives off.

But I wasn’t joking! I really meant it. I was very sad.

Jay Leno Camaro

I found a picture of Jay Leno showing off the new Camaro at Bob’s! I had some of my own pictures from Bob’s but I couldn’t find them, but I found this one here at AutoBlog.com.

In that photo, is that what I think it is? The 2009 Camaro? BUMBLEBEE?!

But it’s the wrong colors. It’s a robot in disguise… in disguise. Sneaky, SNEAKY Leno and his Autobot compatriot.
