Hollywood is crazier than you ever imagined

Published by steveracer at 2:15 pm under Hollywood Edit This

If you put a bunch of rabid camels in a warehouse with a bunch of typewriters (with oversized keys) you would get a big smelly, bloody mess. But that’s not the point. The point is: Hollywood is crazy.

Now you probably already know about crazy stuff actors and actresses do, but the people behind the scenes (directors and producers) often make them look like amateurs. What am I talking about? Remember the last Superman film? You know why there was no Superman film for years and years? Because the people who bought the rights to make them were complete loonies. From the Wiki:

“Kevin Smith pitched Jon Peters his story outline in August 1996, in which Peters gave him permission to write a screenplay. However, Peters did present Smith with three rules. Peters wanted Superman to wear an all-black suit, feeling the more traditional suit was not masculine enough. He didn’t want to see Superman fly whatsoever, citing that he would “look like an overgrown Boy Scout.” In order to deal with this, Smith wrote Superman flying as “a red-and-blue blur in flight, creating a sonic boom every time he flew.” In addition, Peters felt Superman should fight a giant spider in the third act. Nevertheless, Smith accepted the terms, realizing that he was not being hired for his vision, but to execute a pre-ordained idea. Peters and Warner Bros. forced Smith to write a scene involving Brainiac fighting polar bears at the Fortress of Solitude, and Peters wanted Brainiac to give Lex Luthor a space dog, stating “Chewie’s cuddly, man. You could make a toy out of him, so you’ve got to give me a dog.” “

To sum up: no flying, black suit, fights a GIANT SPIDER, and Lex Luthor has a talking space dog.  We can all be thankful that that particular script never saw daylight.

Not only that, but many, many times here in La La Land, production companies buy great scripts solely to make sure that no one else makes them. They have no intention of making the film themselves — so what happens is we never get to see tons of these good movies that are written. Instead, we get crap like The Love Guru.

Los Angeles is a huge ethnic mix. They have not just a China Town, but a Filipino Town and an Armenia town! This picture is the storefront of “Ethical Drugs” (love the name) in Korea Town.
